Woman spectator awarded substantial damages after stock car accident
A woman spectator who was injured at a stock car race has been awarded more than £100,000 compensation.
Jackie Edwards, from Cannock, Staffordshire, was watching an event at Hednesford Raceway, when the accident happened.
The 46-year-old suffered a partial neck fracture and broken pelvis after a vehicle crashed into two lorry wheels, throwing them into the crowd.
United Kingdom Stock Cars, which was in charge of the April 2006 race, agreed to pay her a 'substantial six figure sum', in an out-of-court settlement.
The company agreed to the damages after admitting liability.
Mrs Edwards was airlifted to hospital after being injured in the incident which happened after one of the stock cars careered off the track at the Bank Holiday event.
She said she had been unable to return to her job as a cleaner and still suffers pain and frequent headaches.
Mrs Edwards said she felt "lucky to be alive" following the freak accident.
"I don't blame the driver of the stock car," she said.
"I understand he took it all really badly but, like me, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
