Wind turbine payout
08 October 2007
A sound recordist, who is now in a wheelchair as a result of injuries sustained when he was hit by the arm of a wind turbine, has won the right to damages.
Adam Jones, 45, was making a documentary on an 'eco-community' in Pembrokeshire, when a turbine which was lowered for repairs, sheered off and struck him, causing multiple spinal injuries.
Mr Jones is now permanently dependent on a wheelchair, suffers with chronic pain and is unable to work.
Mr Jones is claiming £1.5 million in compensation. The amount of the settlement will be decided at a future hearing.
Tanveer Jaleel, senior partner at TJL Solicitors comments: “In work situations such as this, the employer has a duty to identify and evaluate any new or different hazards related to the particular job, and to do everything that is reasonably practicable to protect people from harm.”
